California legislator moves to block Gmail | CNET News.com

California legislator moves to block Gmail | CNET News.com: "A California state senator said Monday she was drafting legislation to block Google's free e-mail service 'Gmail' because it would place advertising in personal messages after searching them for key words."

i have held my toung on this one too long. i will no longer.

1st in this country last i checked i have the freedom to contract. guess what, when someone signs up to use a service the sign a contract for the use of that service. if that contract lets google read my email, end of story. i had the freedom not to sign the contract and take my biz else where.

next, every and i mean every, isp, on line service of any kind keeps copies of what i send. i send, they rout, they cache and do many other things to ensure my info gets where its going. its not new or unique to google. yahoo, hotmail, roadrunner, etc, all keep copies. as do universities and i am sure the federal gov't when my stuff flies through their machines. it is a neccessity of doing business. the technology we use today demands it. it was designed to function this way so no one could ever stop the flow. and i for one feel pretty good about that.

further to suggest the destruction of the information once you are no longer engaged with the isp etc... is ludicris. how are they to go find every piece of data you have ever accessed, sent or stored. are all caching servers, routers or other like devices suposed to do this when you deciede today i will stop using the internet. excuse me may i have you attention, everyone please clear all record of my use now. stop what your doing and delete me. yes this sounds like an incredibly efficient idea, with no basis in reality what so ever.

what the fuck is going on here?

and what of spam filters, did people think they block spam without looking at it? how would the filter know if it was spam? if you fit in to this catagory i am very sorry. maybe you should get an education and stop bothering the rest of us. or better yet don't waste the resources just please top yourself quietly in the corner. thanks.

anyway its all just crazy that a company comes forth, tells you exactly what it is going to do, hiddes nothing, and is met by an overwhelming wave of complaint and now potentially legistaive action to block it. never mind that this activity has been going on for a great deal of time with other isps through the tech mentioned above. or that the activity is completely consentual. geez maybe we would feel beter if they just watched us ala carnavor style and didn't bother to tell us.

for any of the readers here who know me personally i love my privacy and one day aspire to be a blank. but this is just stoopid. i think i am gona stop wasting 1's and 0's now. oh btw Sen. Liz Figueroa, a Democrat from Fremont, Calif., fuck off!!!
