ElcomSoft Verdict: Not Guilty, A jury on Tuesday found a Russian company ElcomSoft and employee Dmitry Sklyarov, who was arrested during Defcon after giving a speech about his company's software which is designed to crack protections on Adobe Systems' eBooks making the ebooks more usable and portable (ie. blind users can have their computers turn thee text to speech), not guilty of criminal copyright charges under th DMCA!!!

Fireworks were everywere, Joe bought some and got licenced by the state of WI to carry explosives. Met Joe, Alyssa, Justin, golfed far vu, bats and glow balls. Bash came by. Went out to drink in o-dub. Hit three joints and then went back to fiance of jungle dj's house to kick it and hear of here three kidneys. Next day car hop for lunch, super cool!!! Then off to cabin, explosive, high power guns, many kegs, tractors, atvs, and one whole rosted pig with its head on a stake. Need i say more... : ) Next day, bad movie k-19, more golf, food by lake, back to chi, on way D trys to win Cowerdly Lion statue at a truck stop. Fall asleep watching French connection. Next day best pizza on plannet, $50 cab ride to $15, and bump up to biz class!!! All and all groovey trip, oh btw did i mention it was hot as hell and i am covered with mosquito bites head to toe!!! But it was worth it!!! : )

Space Rock's Close Approach Astronomers have revealed that on 14 June, an asteroid the size of a football pitch made one of the closest ever recorded approaches to the Earth. Ruben breakes down all the components of the "color book" standards that maybe effected by Sony and how ultimately they may not even be the key to Sony's liability. i may disagree with his findings but as he puts it, it is difficult to determine weather or not these disks conform because the standards are not public. They are owned by Sony (along with Philips) and odds are they are not going to show them to non-paying licencies any time soon. In any case this is a very cogent article that articulately discusses not only the technology involved but the law as well. The truth is inovation is required to stay in business in a capitalist system. If spectrum becomes more available, then thoes who had it when it was scarce should inovate and keep there customers by being better than the new guy. The same is true for the music industry. The FuzzyBlog! has a great bit on killing .doc! Years ago i heard Scott McNealy of Sun outlawed the use of all proprietary file formats after doing a study of Sun's productivity. He found that the files were chewing up massive amounts of bandwidth and disk space compared to their open standard counterparts. i for one cant stand getting files in .doc formats 'cause i don't use Word or Office. You can accomplish anything they do much more efficiently in html, txt, rtf, and xml. No to mention the dangers of embeded viruses and the like that can come in the form of .doc macros. Anyway enough soap box. Look for yourself at .doc and then save as txt and compare. Multiply time the size of then net, and bandwidth scarcity is solved, not to mention all that extra space for mp3s!!! : )

A Bad, Sad Hollywood Ending? Hollywood studios and record labels want to encrypt their products with an algorithm of some sort, for which every piece of hardware or software that plays or displays their material must have a corresponding electronic key. (If the algorithm or the key is missing, the content won't play -- thus thwarting pirates.) For added protection, the established entertainment companies want Congress to pass a law requiring technology companies to build the key into their products. Thus, no DVD players, PCs, CD players, or operating systems would be legal without Hollywood-designed copyright protection!!!

Being that i am all into this wireless thing lately, i realized my facination is two fold. One i like not have to sit in front of a machine, i like walking around, sitting on the beach, under a tree, you get the idea. but also an unexpected advantage has come with wap, content is very light due to the low bandwidth and high cost of it. but see att wireless, its free!!! but i digress. anyway i like light content. fewer ads, moving gifs, superflous java and flash. wap gets rid of 99% of this crap. just give me info. anyway here are some tools that might aid the experience even what teathered.

How can I enable my site visitors to translate my page automatically? Babelfish has the answer. Add a few lines of code, just cut and paste, and have your site available in multiple languages. I saw this years ago but always forget where it was when I needed for it.
