Brilliant takes RIAA to court: "Brilliant Digital Entertainment and its subsidiary Altnet sued the RIAA and several online companies Wednesday for alleged patent infringement. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, asks the court to stop the RIAA, Overpeer Inc. and Loudeye Corp. from using Altnet's patent for 'identifiers,' a way of tagging content with a unique tracking number. Loudeye, which acquired Overpeer in March, is accused of infringing on the patent by distributing fake or damaged files in an effort to thwart illegal peer-to-peer music trading. The RIAA and the other defendants, including several current and former RIAA executives, were not immediately available for comment."
